Aegina expects over 2 million visitors this year
Aegina is on a trajectory of steady tourism momentum, expected to surpass the 2 million visitor barrier this year, confirming its role as a leading island destination within a stone’s throw of Athens.
“Aegina is today the most accessible and affordable island destination for visitors, with frequent ferry connections from Piraeus and three active ports – Aegina, Souvala, and Agia Marina – that receive thousands of visitors daily,” Stavros Kalamakis, president of the Aegina Hoteliers’ Association, told Tornos News.
The latest infrastructure upgrades on the island, most notably the archaeological site of the Temple of Aphaia and the removal of overhead power lines that burdened the landscape, enhance the visitor experience. At the same time, the island’s strong cultural and religious portfolio – from Aphaia to the monastery of Agios Nektarios – is a constant attraction.
In a recent meeting with the Secretary General of the Greek National Tourism Organization, Dimitris Fragakis, the Hoteliers’ Association submitted a comprehensive set of proposals aimed at designing a long-term tourism strategy for Aegina. Among them: the establishment of an Aegina Tourist Organization, the assignment of a tourism trend study to Marketing Greece, the modernization of port stations, and the establishment of a tourism promotion committee for the Argosaronic Gulf.
Aegina is moving from managing success to planning the future, investing in infrastructure, image, and organization, aiming for quality, sustainable, and multi-level tourism.
